Title: Trained to Win

Series: Winter Sports, Book 2
Heat Level: flames 3.5 out of 5
Rating: 4 stars out of 5
Blurb: Jordi never felt his heart soar until he stumbled upon the performance of a figure skater dressed all in black wowing crowds in Chicago on a magical day after Christmas. Their first meeting ended with a kiss that turned Jordi’s world upside down causing him to question everything about his attractions to both women and men. Was it obsession? Infatuation? Hero worship? All three?
Pegged as the bad boy of the figure skating world, Tristan warded off the damaging effects of past abuses and tragedies by building stainless steel walls around his vulnerable heart. He’s been trained to win as the only valid path forward to rise above his troubled early life. The goal was simple until Jordi appeared armed with innocence and honesty, the perfect twin wrecking balls for tearing down Tristan’s barriers.
It doesn’t take long for both of them to realize they belong together, but difficulties of distance, culture and ambition all threaten to stand in their way. Will friends, loving families, and the will to win be enough?

Review: This is the second book in Declan Rhodes’ Winter Sports Series and follows a very similar theme as the first. We were introduced to Jordi in Built for Speed, the first book in the series. His innocence and boy next door love of life was so special that everyone loved him. (See my review of Built For Speed here)
His chance meeting with the Bad Boy figure skater Tristan, brought out feelings Jordi didn’t understand. Yet he knew he wanted to be near this man dressed in black as much as possible, but why? Did Tristan feel the same way? Tristan’s Bad Boy persona was well documented in the hot spectator sport and his personal hell was enough to scare anyone away. But not Jordi and Tristan noticed.
Though Jordi thought he was straight, he began to understand why being with girls was not that hot. His eyes began to open when he broke his silence about how he felt about Tristan with his former girlfriend and now best friend, Amy. Not ready to burst into the gay scene, he kept his feelings deep in the closet and started navigating his newfound journey into a relationship with another man.
Rhodes did a great job peeling both Tristan and Jordi’s layers back. You know they would become lovers, but not the events that would lead up to that happening. Trained to Win is a good, quick read that will give you a warm cozy at the end.
