Genre: Romantic Suspense
Blurb: Washington, D.C., Metro Police Detective Sergeant Sam Holland needs a big win to salvage her career–and her confidence–after a disastrous investigation. The perfect opportunity arises when Senator John O’Connor is found brutally murdered in his bed, and Sam is assigned to the case. Matters get complicated when Sam has to team up with Nick Cappuano, O’Connor’s friend and chief of staff…and the man Sam had a memorable one-night stand with years earlier. Their sexual chemistry still sizzles, and Sam has to fight to stay focused on the case. Sleeping with a material witness is another mistake she can’t afford–especially when the bodies keep piling up.
Why would someone kill the man who everyone loved? Who could have done it without causing alarm? And why the brutal manner in which he was murdered?
Washington, D.C., Metro Police Detective Sergeant Sam Holland is tasked with those questions and more. Her reputation tarnished from an investigation that went horribly wrong, the press, as well as the Washington political cronies of Senator O’Connor don’t want her on the case. Her chief (and uncle) do. He has full confidence that Sam will do the department, herself, and her disable father justice.
Can she find the murderer without losing more of her creditability as the investigation ensues? Can she keep her self control when the case brings her in direct contact with a former lover? Can she handle the constant abuse from the press?
Fatal Affair was written by Marie Force, a New York Times, USA Today and Wall Street Journal bestselling, award-winning author of more than 35 contemporary romances. After reading this book, I am not surprised at her awards.
Marie took me on a roller coaster ride of an investigation into murder, deceit, lies, and contempt. She skillfully merged the murder investigation with the controversial love affair Sam was having with Nick Cappuano, a material witness in the investigation.
Fatal Affair had me from the first paragraph. The book kept me thinking, asking questions, and trying to figure out the next event in a long chain of events that I didn’t expect. No spoiler alerts here, but I will say that this is the first in a series of Fatal books written by Marie Force. And yes, I’ve added them to my ever growing reading list.
