Review: Police Officer Jack Stratton is hiding. Hiding from the world. From pain. From the memories of losing his best friend, Chandler, in Iraq. Suffering from PTSD, and isolated from those he cares about, the
last thing Jack expects to hear is his foster sister Michelle is gone – Chandler’s sister. The words cut straight to his core. Although the police think she just took off, he knows Michelle would never leave those she loved behind – like he did. Now he must take action, find Michelle and bring her home… or die trying.
At first I thought this would be like most other ‘who done it’ books, but Greyson quickly changed my mind. He drew me in – into Jack Stratton’s life, into his previous life and into his fears. Like every person we meet, Jack has fears, but his are different. Losing your (foster) brother due to a senseless war is one thing, but watching it happen is another. Jack’s life was anything but pleasant growing up in foster care, not knowing when or if he would be adopted, bonding with his foster family only to lose his brother; his best friend. PTSD hits people in many different ways. For Jack it was not only his fears, but his dreams and his inability to maintain a relationship. It all added up to a life few would aspire to for themselves. The plots developed by Greyson definitely kept me reading. I wanted to know who is “Replacement” and why she was so important to Jack? I wanted to know why Jack’s sister was missing. I wanted to know what happened to her. Michelle became important to me. Replacement became important to me. I will read the other Stratton novels simple because Greyson wirtes a great book.
