Blurb: In a world that measures success in dollars, how do you put a price on happiness?
Love, marriage, and a baby carriage. It’s all Alex Stanton has ever wanted. Well, that and an Olympic medal for figure skating. The medal he got. The rest of it – not so much.
When his most recent poor decision comes to a door-slamming end, Alex moves into the house of his best friend, Thunder starting goalie, Sergei Pergov. But when tragedy strikes, giving Sergei custody of the twins he fathered confidentially, Alex’s problems take a backseat to the needs of two infants, and Alex vows to be the best fake-dad and house-husband he can be.
Sergei is dazzled by the way Alex makes managing all the craziness look as easy as doing a triple-axel. As their friendship grows even deeper, Sergei realizes he doesn’t want to imagine a life without Alex in it. Alex is the one who makes their house a home; his love makes them a family. How can Sergei make Alex understand he’s worth everything?
Skater Boy is a story about falling in love with your best friend. It contains discussions about baby poop, day drinking, girls’ night out, and the purchase of a mini-van.
Review: Amy did it again! SkaterBoy is a well written story about a young man who thinks his life is worthless even after becoming a figure skating star and competing in the Olympics.
Twenty-seven year old Alex is a mess. He has had several flings with men who proclaimed to be in love with him only to find himself out in the cold when a new “love” entered the picture. Now, homeless again, he has been rescued by his lifelong friend Sergei. Wow, the inner turmoil that Alex feels at that point nearly derails him. Sergei the acclaimed hockey goalie, Sergei the multimillionaire, Sergei the man who boarded with Alex’s family since he was sixteen years old, Sergei the man he pictures when he thinks about sex.
Alex wants love, but what is love? Does love follow sex? Does love follow friendship? Does love follow a relationship? Then again, what is a relationship? He thought he had that several times only to find the man who said he loved him really loved the sex, power, and control he had over him. No, love is a fantasy. But Sergei knows better. He knows the real Alex, knows the love Alex has for him, even if he doesn’t realize it yet; and knows the love he feels for Alex. How does he make Alex understand what love is?
Wasp captured the inner turmoil felt by both men quite well. She intertwined their feelings for each other with the feelings of helplessness thrust upon them by Alex’s self proclaimed worthlessness. Sometimes it takes a village… No, I won’t spoil the ending, you’ll have to read the book for that.
