Review: Brownstone – A Jack Elliot Thriller by Dean Kutzler
Title: Brownstone
Author: Dean Kutzler
Series: The Jack Elliot Thriller Series Book 1
Rating: 4 stars out of 5
Blurb: Jack Elliot isn’t an ex-cop or marine. He doesn’t know martial arts, hand-to-hand combat, or even how to fight. He’s just a journalist from Montreal returning home to NYC to pay respect to a dying uncle.
An uncle with a secret.
It isn’t long before Jack is twisted into a plot so thick with murder, mystery, and deceit that he’s racing just as hard to save his life as he is to find the truth.

Review: I wasn’t sure about Brownstone as I started reading, but soon found myself drawn in by the mystery that Kutzler was building. He did a superb job in that development and frankly I had no idea what would happen next. That said, I did find some of his writing to be too verbose. He described everything, thoughts, rooms, cemeteries, etc in such detail that I found myself skimming through numerous paragraphs and even pages as I read the book.
The premise of Brownstone is great and Kutzler did a great job carrying that premise through to the end of the book. What would you do if you found yourself immersed in a mystery that kept getting stranger by the minute? How would you handle secrets that have been kept for centuries? Would you allow yourself to be drawn into the dark side to find the answers? To find out what Elliot did, you have to read the book.
